About Pinellas Powertrain

Pinellas Powertrain was founded by father-son duo John and Johnny Spears.

​

John was a GM electrical systems engineer at Delco-Remy / Delphi in Anderson, Indiana with a focus on engine controls and ignition system development.   From his own interest, and knowledge gained from GM electrical systems engineering, he began developing and installing GM EFI conversions in the early 90's for work buddies and friends on the side.  When the LS1 came out in 1997, he saw the potential , and pioneered the first standalone LS wiring harnesses for swap use in his garage - founding Speartech Fuel Injection Systems, Inc.

The business took off, and in 2001, after 23 years with GM, John retired from Delphi and dedicated his time to Speartech full-time.

Johnny was there from the start of Speartech, always helping out and interested in the business from a young age.  By 2009 he had become a full-time employee and began building a new website and finding a new workforce to meet the market's growing needs.

​

In 2022, Holley Performance Products bought Speartech.  John & Johnny moved to Florida for some time off.  After a couple years of R&R, we are back at it doing what we love!​​​​​
